Why “Skin” A Palm Tree?

Its Not necessary, But Better For The Tree and You

It is not always necessary to skin a palm tree, but in some cases, it can be beneficial for the health of the tree, as well as your family’s safety. Skinning a palm tree involves removing the old dead fronds, or leaves, that hang down from the trunk of the tree. This is also known as pruning or trimming.

The main reason that customers request us to periodically skin a palm tree is to improve its appearance. Dead fronds can accumulate on the tree over time, making it look unkempt or untidy. By removing these fronds, the tree can look more aesthetically pleasing.

Another reason to skin a palm tree is to promote healthy growth. Dead fronds can provide a breeding ground for insects and disease, not to mention rats and birds, which can harm the tree. By removing these fronds, the tree is less likely to experience problems with pests and disease.

Finally, skinning a palm tree can also help to improve the safety of the area around the tree. Dead fronds can fall from the tree and pose a hazard to people and property below. Dead palm fronds are heavier than they look.  And when carried by wind gusts, or a storm, it can hit you in the head, or damage property such as cars or houses that it hits.  By removing these fronds, the risk of injury or damage is reduced.

In summary, while it is not always necessary to skin a palm tree, doing so periodically can help to improve its appearance, promote healthy growth, and increase safety in the surrounding area.
